My Four-Year Journey to the top of The Alps

How does a 16-year-old high school sophomore in rural South Carolina get to the top of Mt. Blanc?

He doesn’t.

But he never stops thinking about it.

Four years later, he is staring through the clouds down on Chamonix, France wondering how in the hell did this happen?

I look back to that pinnacle moment in my life often, and I want to share how that epic moment came to be so that anyone can see that achieving an ultimate dream is within reach.

Three of the most significant factors that carried me to the highest peak in central Europe are:

Dreaming Big

When I was 16, I bought my first Arc’teryx jacket. Arc’teryx is renowned for making some of the highest quality outdoor clothing, and as an avid hiker and outdoorsman, I always wanted one of their jackets.

A quick search will reveal that those jackets are expensive, often priced at $500 or more. As a part-time lifeguard, I did not have that much cash to throw around.
